The very first store and steak house was opened in February 1977, in Frisco, Texas, Main Street just off Hwy 281. The owner, Toni Pryor, a graduate nurse from Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas, and after 11 years in nursing decided to open a Restaurant and named it: The Double Barrel Steak House and had a small Texas store. The Steaks were written up in D Magazine as some of the Best and worth the drive from Dallas to Frisco. In 1984 The Double Barrel sold and Toni moved to Denison and opened a small Texas Jewelry store in Sherman with her mother as her best partner. It was named, “ Tickle You Fancy” and was very popular for 3 years. Toni bought 3 acres on hwy 377 just North of Whitesboro, on the way to Lake Texoma, in 1994. Construction began in 1997 on THE LONGHORN RANCH STORE AND GRILL. The Store and Grill opened in 1998, and became the place to stop on the way to the lake and on the way back from the lake! For a great Chicken Fried steak or a 20 oz. Rib Eye, and Homemade Margaritas and ice cold draft beer, and The Texas Store was chock full of TEXAS memorabilia, The Longhorn Ranch Store and Grill was sold in 2006. In 2006 Longhorn Toni found a 7 acre tract on Hwy 82 to build another Longhorn Ranch Store and Grill. The foundation was poured in late September 2006 for a 9,000 sq. ft building to house the restaurant and the Texas store. This location opened in January 2007. We just barely missed Christmas. This location sold in July 2014.
Longhorn Toni had a dream of someday going back to her hometown Eastland, Texas, and opening her final store. After months of dead end searches in Eastland all summer of 2014 a property was found that did not have a “for sale” sign but it was on Interstate 20! and had one of the last remaining WW11 Barracks, ( in very poor shape)…. An offer was made to the owner. A deal was made to buy the World War II Barracks, and all the Eastland Cactus that came with it! And I mean CACTUS!! Some plants over 100 years old right out the back door of the Barracks! Yes, we are keeping them!
Restoration on the Barracks began December 2014. The WWII Barracks was reconstructed as close as possible to what it was originally. Many years of weather made the Barracks in very poor condition, structurally she was sound, but the roof, siding, and all inside walls had to be exposed as well as the ceiling. All new roof, windows, doors, insulation, sheet rock plus we added a killer porch of 14 ft wide by almost 100 ft long!
The WWII Barracks will be open for Historical viewing by the end of April and by Memorial Day week we will have the first ‘Soft Open House” of THE LONGHORN RANCH STORE in EASTLAND.
NONE OF OUR MERCHANDISE IS PLASTIC . . . AND NEITHER ARE WE!
We offer Great Customer Service, Cheerful and helpful Eastland County Staff.
